Your fish can have a grand name such as Henry Martin Lewis III. Or, it can be a goofy name such as Danger. It really doesn’t matter. Naming your new fish is a lot of fun because there are no limits!

If you don’t feel comfortable naming your new fish on your own, ask your family members or friends for help. Thinking up names can be fun. You’ll be amazed at the crazy things your relatives will throw at you!

You can also get on the Internet and look up “fish names.” Many different Web sites have long lists of names that will help in naming your new fish.

Do I have to name my fish?

Of course not! Naming your new fish is something you can choose to do. No one (except for maybe your kids) will tell you to name your fish. People name their animals because it makes them feel a kinship toward that animal. There are also practical reasons for naming some animals, such as cats and dogs. These animals respond to their names, which helps with obedience. A fish, however, probably won’t respond when you yell his or her name! But, naming your new fish will help you keep track of the fish in your aquarium, especially if your fish have similar markings.
