Read About Choosing Detanglers

Detanglers are necessary if you own a longhaired dog. The challenge is to keep his hair from becoming snarled and matted.

Things to consider:

  • Remove Tangles First – Detanglers are a vital part of any longhaired dog grooming kit. You should always remove all tangles from your dog´s hair before putting him into the bath or you will only make it harder for you to get them out later. In addition, if those tangles become matted, you have a real ordeal.

  • Long-Term Help – Some leave-in conditioners contain a detangler. You can purchase one of these two–in–one wonders and can keep your dog´s coat silky and mat–free without even getting him wet. He will still need baths to stay clean and healthy, though.

  • Work When Wet – You should not ever try to demat your dog with a dry coat. If he is getting a bath, you should spray him down with a detangler first, bathe him, and then brush out the mats. If you are not planning to give him a bath before you brush him, you can saturate his coat with a good detangler.
