Read About Choosing Anti-Diarrheal-Scours

Every now and then your cows or calves can become ill and have diarrhea. Treatment is important to keep them strong and prevent dehydration.

Things to Consider:

  • Calves –Young calves are often affected by scours, due to their growing stomachs and digestive tracts, which are quite sensitive. Try treating these health issues at home for a while to remedy your calves. If they do not show signs of improvement, a trip to the vet might be necessary.

  • Fluids – When diarrhea affects any of your cattle, it is essential to be sure they are ingesting plenty of fluids. Whatever the cause of their illness may be, water can help retain their strength, along with an electrolyte mixture which helps in absorption.

  • Quarantine – It is best to quarantine a sick calve from the others, since the illness can be highly contagious.
