Read About Choose Cat Food

Do you know what to look for when you are trying to select a cat food that is healthy and nutritious? More importantly, do you know what to avoid? You should take time to make sure the following things are not on the label of your cat's food.

  1. The first things you should look for on cat food labels are words such as by- products and digest. These may read something like -- meat by-products or bone meal by-products. These contain cooked and converted animals (including some dogs and cats) or added sugars.

  2. You also want to avoid excessive chemical preservatives. The most common ones you might see on labels are BHA, BHT, ethoxyquen, and propylagallate. Chemical preservatives are not good for your cat. When a food has a lot of preservatives in it, then there isn´t very much natural food in it at all.

  3. Another thing you´ll want to avoid is food with excessive fillers in it. Corn meal is a filler. Carbohydrates are also used as fillers. Dry food can contain up to 50% grain fillers. Needless to say, this is not a healthy food for your cat.

Whether you choose to feed your cat with dry or canned food is your choice. Most vets agree it is best to give a little of each. This is recommended especially if you have a growing cat that can consume solid food throughout the day and a nice meal of canned food at night.
