Finding the right pet stroller can be difficult unless you know the answers to a few questions. Which pet stroller is right for my pet and me? What about the wheels, are they important? Will my pet go along with a pet stroller? What is the most important aspect when I pick a pet stroller?
The last question, what is the most important aspect when picking a pet stroller, is perhaps the most important question. The weight of your pet will determine, to a great degree, the type of pet stroller that you should choose. Pet strollers carry a certain amount of weight and anything above that weight will harm the stroller and perhaps your pet as well. Whether you are shopping online or offline, determine the weight of your pet before you purchase. Most online companies that sell pet strollers offer a simple plan: Pets weighing less than 25 pounds are one type, and pets weighing more than 25 pounds will be in the other group. If you have an especially heavy pet, you will certainly want to verify that the pet stroller you wish to own can carry his weight. This could be very important for the safety of your pet.
Once you determine what size of pet stroller to get, you can look at the various styles available. There are many of them, so be patient and you will almost certainly find one that you like. If your pet is especially sensitive to sunlight, you may want to get a pet stroller that has a canopy or sunscreen. Some pets, however, love the sunlight and would not be happy in an enclosed space. You can, of course, get a pet stroller that has either a removable or collapsible top to fit all occasions.
The types of wheels that you get for your pet stroller are important too. Heavy-duty wheels are best for pets that are over 25 pounds in weight. They are also a good choice if you plan to use your stroller a lot. Also, if the pavement that you normally walk on is rough or gravelly, heavier wheels are best. On the other hand, if you pet is light and you only plan to walk a few times a week, you could reasonably buy the less expensive wheels and they should do just fine.
If your pet has been in a stroller before and liked it, then getting into a new one should be no problem. However, if your pet has never been in a stroller, you may want to take him or her on a test ride before you buy. If you plan to shop online, you can visit a local pet store and ask if your pet can take a test drive in one of their strollers. They will almost always agree to this. This doesn't mean you have to buy the stroller, just use it for a few minutes. If your pet seems very agitated while in the stroller or tries to jump out, then perhaps you should reconsider getting one for him.
You can, of course, train your pet to accept his pet stroller. It may take a little time, but with some patience on your part, he should fall into liking it. This is especially true when he figures out that pet stroller equals walk outside.
