When you adopt a new
kitten or adult cat, a veterinarian visit should be one of the first things on your To Do list. Most of the time, the checkup will consist of the veterinarian checking the cat’s teeth and mouth, ears, skin, and fur. The vet might listen to your cat’s heart and test her joints to check mobility.
A general checkup will usually consist of some lab tests, too, including a fecal test for worms and mites, or even a blood test. Around 10 weeks of age, your kitten should have its baby vaccinations as well.
To stay on top of your cat’s well-being, it’s advisable to go to the vet for twice-yearly checkups. This will give you a chance to discuss any issues or concerns with the professional, and head off any developing conditions or
illnesses at the pass.
Preparing Your Cat for the Vet
No matter the age of your cat, if she hates going to the vet, there are some things you can do to help make it less of a nightmare for the both of you:
Bring treats or a favorite toy along with you to distract the cat from what the vet is doing. Better yet, ask the staff or the vet to administer the treats. 
That way, your cat will connect that person in her mind with good things.
Make periodic visits to the vet even if you don’t have an appointment. Get your cat accustomed to entering the waiting room without trouble.
If there’s one person at the clinic your cat seems to like or feel comfortable with, try and schedule appointments when that person will be there.
