Yellow Labrador Retrievers are strong, solid dogs with short, water-resistant coats. 
They are affectionate, playful, and highly intelligent dogs and are generally very good with children. Easily trainable, Yellow Labrador Retrievers make wonderful family dogs. Their intelligence comes at a price, though. Labrador Retrievers can become bored, which can lead to destructive behavior. Proper training and lots of toys are very important for Labs. Yellow Labrador Retrievers are very highly trainable and are often used for hunting and retrieving, police work, agility, and as service dogs.
Labrador Retrievers are originally from Newfoundland, Canada, where they were trained to jump off fishing boats and pull the full nets to the shore. Some of these dogs were brought from Canada to England. In England they were bred to be slightly heavier and stockier than American-bred Labrador retrievers.
Yellow Labrador Retrievers are strong, muscular dogs. Their webbed feet help them swim, and their short double coat is water resistant. Yellow Labrador Retrievers have wide muzzles and medium length pendant ears. Their tails are strong and tapered. The average Yellow Labrador Retriever grows to 21-24 inches, weighing around 55-75 pounds.
Yellow Labrador Retrievers require little grooming. Occasional brushing is all that is needed for their short coat. While some adventurous Yellow Labradors may get themselves into dirty situations, these dogs do not generally need frequent baths. When bathing a Yellow Labrador Retriever use shampoo sparingly, taking care not to strip the natural oils from the dog’s coat.
Yellow Labrador Retrievers are prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, and may also develop eye disorders. Be sure to deal with a breeder who screens her stock well to avoid these genetic issues. Yellow Labrador Retrievers often have very large appetites; without sufficient exercise to work this off, they have a tendency to become overweight. Yellow Labrador Retrievers have a life expectancy of around 10-12 years.
