Leaving Town? Make Sure Your Pup is Settled
If you have to leave your dog while you travel, it’s important to provide for his well-being and comfort in your absence. 
A dog isn’t a possession you can simply put on a shelf for the duration; he has needs and your leaving will affect him.
The ideal situation for your dog would be to have a friend or family member stay at your house with him while you’re gone. Keeping your pooch in his comfortable environment will help alleviate his discomfort in missing you. Dogs thrive on routine, so holding as tightly as possible to his daily routine, even if you’re not there, is valuable.
If you can’t get a friend or family member to stay at your home, or even check in on the dog every day for some
playtime and attention, then you may consider hiring a professional pet sitter.
Do your research and don’t hire someone you don’t feel completely comfortable with. You’ll want someone who can give references of past clients who were satisfied with his or her services.
Another option is dog boarding. Not really ideal, it can be an acceptable solution if you take the time to find a reputable boarder who will care for your dog the way he deserves to be cared for. Look for boarding facilities that are clean and well-staffed. Do your homework, too; ask about special circumstances, number of dogs boarded, what type of exercise schedule they have, and emergency care services.
