Turtle and tortoises should not be put on a leash for the gratification of walking your pet’ it may cause its shell to become perforated or damaged. Turtles and tortoises also do not understand the concept of leashes. If the shell becomes damaged, it can become infected. Their shell is actually bone of the body.

As you take your reptile for a walk on their leash, consider the areas you are going. Make sure where you go is safe for your reptile. Check the area of sharp rocks, glass, or anything that may cause stress to your reptile. Make sure to have water for the reptile to drink to prevent dehydration. Also, make sure to carry a spray container of water so the reptile does not become to dry.

As the reptile is used to the leash, it will start looking forward to the walks. The reptile will enjoy the time spent with you. So, when taking your reptile for a walk, make it routine, just as you would for feeding, watering, and cleaning.

Leash training your reptile is very possible with the proper care. Patience is the key. If you rush the leash training, your reptile may become skittish and choose not to be on a leash. Take each step with the process cautiously. Walking your reptile routinely will help build your relationship. Make sure while walking your reptile you always watch your surroundings to keep your reptile safe. Keep water with you to keep your reptile hydrated, and be careful with the leash so no blisters or cuts occur, this will prevent infections. Keep routine while walking your reptile and have fun.
