ImageEach bird has a bird call that helps it communicate with other birds. Here's everything you need to know about a bird call.

What is a bird call?

You hear bird calls every day. In fact, in the summer, they may wake you up much earlier than you actually wanted to get up. Sometimes we call it chirping, or singing, but the bottom line is, the noise made by a bird is called a bird call.

Why is a bird call necessary?

The bird call is the most important tools birds have for communicating with each other. Without a bird call, birds would have a very difficult time knowing who's going where and more importantly, if there's danger on the horizon.

A bird call is used as a way to express pleasure, aggression and distress. Birds also use the bird call to tell their buddies they're ready to go into flight, are defending their territory, are alarmed or want to mate.

The number of bird calls that a species of bird uses really depends on the species. Some birds use only six bird calls while others will use 13. A bird call is a universal way of communication among a group of birds. Some bird calls are so specialized and specific that they actually have more than one distress call.

How does a bird make a bird call?

Birds do not have larynx, which is what humans use to make sound, but they do have a syrnix. The syrinx is located much lower in a bird's body than a larynx is located in a human. This part of the bird sits down in its chest at such a point where it can connect to two different bronchi. This allows the bird to make two different noises at one time, which is why when a bird is making a bird call, it may sound like two different birds are calling.

A bird call is a good hunting tool

To be a good hunter you have to know the mannerisms and nuances of your prey or you will have a difficult time outsmarting them. Bird hunters are good at using the bird call to their advantage. A bird call is like a whistle that hunters use to trick birds into thinking that a mate or friend is calling.

There is a bird call for almost every kind of bird, especially birds that are commonly hunted. To use a bird call, you either blow on it or twist it in your hands; it really just depends on the bird call.
