Read About Corner Bird Cage

The bird cage you choose for your bird will be its home for life so make sure it's a good one. Here's what you need to know about a corner bird cage.

Why the corner?

Getting a corner bird cage is a good way to ensure that your bird lives in a safe place in your house. Yes, cages take care of a lot of hazards that a bird would encounter if he were not in a cage — hot surfaces, ceiling fans, water — but a cage can become useless if it's not put in the proper place.

Generally the corner area of a room is the safest place in a room because it receives less foot traffic than other parts of the room. Buying a corner bird cage also gives the cage two walls for support. Now, the cage that you buy should be able to stand or hang on its own, but giving it two extra walls of support can't hurt the stability of the cage.

A corner bird cage also protects the bird from drafts. A draft, either cold or hot, can make a bird ill. Cold drafts can give a bird a cold and hot drafts can make them dehydrated. Keeping your bird away from drafts will make it healthier. Obviously drafts come from windows, doors and vents. Very few houses or apartments have doors or windows that open in the corner of a room.

Types of corner bird cages

You can find a corner bird cage that is literally built to be placed in the corner of a room. These cages are usually steel or metal and are freestanding. By freestanding we mean the cage sits on a large freestanding base. They are square and regardless of size, will fit perfectly against two corner walls.

It should be noted that you should not get a freestanding corner bird cage if you have predators or small children running around the house. Doing so would be like painting a big red target on the cage. Both animals and children are curious and reckless and might accidentally (or intentionally) knock over the cage.

If your situation includes a predator or small child, you might want to get a corner bird cage that attaches to the ceiling. There are plenty of corner bird cages that attach to the ceiling. Some are round, some are square and some are oblong. We recommend a square hanging corner bird cage because it will give the bird more space.
