Read About Siamese Cats

This beautiful native of Siam, today known as Thailand, is at once recognizable not just for its striking appearance, but also for its notoriety. ImageSiamese Cats generally, are long, slender beauties with a tight, light coat and dark "points" or markings. There is no mistaking Siamese Cats, as they are among the oldest and most popular of the purebred cats.

But, this ancient breed of cat imported to the west in the late 1800s is also well known for is public appearances. Siamese Cats must have great Hollywood agents, as they have, over the years, had plenty of screen credits. Siamese Cats have starred in:

  1. "That Darned Cat". A Siamese Cat starred in the 1963 Disney movie starring Hayley Mills and Dean Jones and almost with every other "B" actor in Hollywood. However, when Christina Ricci and Doug E. Doug starred in the 1997 remake, the Siamese had been replaced by a different breed of cat.
  2. "Incredible Journey". In the original 1963 version, Siamese Cats had something to meow about as one of their own starred as Tao. The Siamese on the move and its two canine companions did not speak, but Sally Field could have become the heroine of all Siamese Cats when she became the voice of Sassy, the cat in the remake "Homeward Bound" that appeared in 1993. But, anti-Siamese Cats forces were at work; the remake starred a Himalayan.
  3. "Lady And The Tramp". The sultry voice of Peggy Lee brought to life what is the unofficial anthem of Siamese Cats: "We Are Siamese If You Please". These Siamese cats, loathed by both Lady and the Tramp, were named Si and Am.
  4. And, "Bell, Book And Candle". Kim Novak played a witch living in, of all places, 1950s New York City. Her "familiar", as the cats of witches were called, was a Siamese Cat named Pyewacket. Starring Jimmy Stewart, Jack London and Ernie Kovacks, among others, "Bell, Book And Candle" was the inspiration for the TV show, "Bewitched".

They come in a rainbow of color combinations; 30 to be exact. But, Siamese Cats always have one of several lighter colors on the body with contrasting points, or markings on the ears, feet and tail. The coats are meant to be very short, very sleek and look as though they have been painted on.

Siamese Cats are known to be intelligent, affectionate, loyal and, to the consternation of some owners, very vocal. However, the talkativeness of Siamese Cats can be overlooked, after all they are the royal cats of Siam.
