How does it work?
The aqua clear refugium filtration process works like other filtration processes except it’s part of the refugium rather than the main tank. It filters water through the system and gets rid of waste materials that are toxic to fish.
Your aqua clear refugium can utilize a protein skimmer just like the main tank can. A protein skimmer sends out bubbles that attach to harmful toxins and then the bubbles float the toxins to the surface of the tank. The toxins and residue are then kept in a container so they can be disposed of at a later date.
Your aqua clear refugium can also handle other filtration systems, such as carbon filtration systems that actually use carbon to filter out harmful toxins before the water is spit back into the tank.
What kind of aqua clear refugium is out there?
There is more than one type of aqua clear refugium. First you have your in tank aqua clear refugium, which is the simplest refugium. This refugium is actually placed in side of the tank, but is sealed off in such a manner that small creatures stay in and the big ones stay out.
You can also get an aqua clear refugium that is sump based. This refugium is a second tank and uses a pump to keep the water moving from tank to tank. This is a good aqua clear refugee to use if you’re trying to raise smaller fish before you introduce them to the main tank.
