Read About Snake Photos

Snake photos can be a great way to show off or memorialize your pet. Here's everything you need to know about this item.

Snake photos - Why?

  1. Who Needs These?

Anyone interested in snakes, whether as pets, study subjects, or just something interesting to look at , may want snake photos.
  2. Types:

(eg Professional or Amateur; Digital or Film) You can take photos of your snake or others on your own, or find a professional to take the photos for you. Check with other snake owners you know for recommendations. If you choose to use a professional photographer, be sure he or she knows you want pictures of a snake; not all pet photographers are accustomed to or knowledgeable about photographing snakes.
  3. Uses:

Snake photos can be used as art, or to remember a departed pet. They can also be shared online to "show off" your snake to other snake enthusiasts.

Snake photos - How to Choose

  1. Online:

The Internet is chock full of images of snakes. Always check for copyright information if you plan to download, print, or use images you find on the Internet.
  2. Professional Shots:

Pet photographers have a gift for letting their own love of pets show in their work. Keep in mind, though, that not all pet photographers are used to or comfortable with photographing snakes. You may be able to find listings online of photographers with experience with snakes. Check with other reptile owners and reptile dealers in your area as well.
  3. Candid Shots:

Since you would be hard-pressed to get your snake to pose, all shots of him alone will be candid. However, if you want to have yourself included in the photos, try getting some candid shots as well as posed ones. Candid shots often help convey your love for your animal in a way a posed picture just cannot. If you are taking candid shots of your snake yourself, be sure you turn off the flash if photographing through glass, as the light will bounce off the surface of the glass. If you are photographing through a mesh enclosure, take care with the auto-focus feature of your camera. You want to be sure the focus is on the snake, not the cage.
  4. Expense:

Pictures from a professional pet photographer may be expensive, but are usually well worth the cost. Look for a photographer that comes recommended by other snake owners, and ask to see his or her previous work with snakes. If you take the pictures yourself, you will need to pay for photo developing (if using a print camera) or prints (from a digital camera).
  5. Other items you might need:

If you are going to be in the photos with the snake, make sure your clothing will not detract from the pattern of the snake.
