Read About Birds Seagulls

Even though they're regularly pegged as ocean beach birds, birds seagulls are all over the place. Here's everything you need to know about birds seagulls.

Birds Seagulls facts

Birds seagulls are those large white birds with slightly hooked beaks that are usually found by a water sources. To the untrained eye, all birds seagulls look the same, but there are actually three general types of birds seagulls. These types include the greater black-backed, the lesser black-backed and the herring gull.

Birds seagulls nest in the spring and can often be found nesting in commercial or residential buildings. They usually lay a couple of eggs and sometimes have a hard time with their brood because the babies frequently fall out of their nests. A very young baby that falls out of nest will usually die because it's too unprotected; however, a larger baby will continue to be protected by its parents and has a better survival rate.

Birds seagulls and humans

Humans have never been large fans of birds seagulls. Birds seagulls are not shy birds and will not hesitate to hang around humans just waiting for them to drop some small morsel for them to eat. Birds seagulls have been living with humans for such a long time that they understand humans mean food and so they use humans as a food source. They hang out at beaches, parks and cities while humans eat. Some are so bold that they will actually swoop down and try to grab the snack themselves.

Birds seagulls travel in large groups so when there's one seagull, there's many, many more to follow. This means a lot of bird messes on beaches, sidewalks and residential areas. Because birds seagulls are social animals, they will also bunk up together. So, if you have one family of birds seagulls nesting in your roof, plan on having a litany of birds seagulls nests on your roof by the end of the year.

Humans have issues with birds seagulls because their nests gum up gutters and end up in places of houses and buildings that are not meant to hold up nests. And, if they're living on your roof, their feces can get into ventilation systems, which can cause humans to get sick. Birds seagulls can also carry avian bird flu, which some experts fear could be transferred to humans through their droppings.

Birds seagulls are very loud, talkative animals and the sound they make drives many beach dwellers crazy. Birds seagulls are also aggressive when it comes to food and will dive bomb humans to get to their food. Many people do not find this to be a pleasant birds seagulls experience.
