Read About Pictures of Birds

Taking pictures of birds takes a lot of patience and skill, but capturing the right picture of a beautiful bird in its natural surroundings can be a powerful image. We see pictures of birds in books, on stationary and on Christmas and holiday greeting cards.

Capturing Pictures of Birds

They say a picture is worth a thousand words and pictures of birds are no different. They can tell us a lot about the behavior and habitat of bird species. Pictures of birds can also create a powerful statement. Some birds represent beauty, while others are to be feared. Most people enjoy looking at photos of birds like the Peacock, Flamingo, Swan, Woodpecker, Parrot and Cardinal. Other birds, like Owl, Osprey, Vultures, Eagles and Falcons, however, send a completely different message.

You can also catch birds doing funny things. You might be able to catch them strutting their stuff to make a good impression during mating season, making a funny face, flying into a window, hanging upside down, eating, or even looking directly at the camera in a bold way.

From a Bird Watcher's View

Nothing is more thrilling for a bird watcher than seeing a rare bird lurking nearby, perched in a backyard tree. But these can be fleeting moments. As soon as you spot them, they can take flight again, never to be seen near your area again. Taking pictures of birds you see will help you to name them properly by later matching the photo to those in a bird field guide or other bird index. Additionally, the photos themselves could become a hobby and collection of their own merit. Many photo collections of birds currently exist online for public viewing, which helps bird lovers to identify the birds they see.

From a Photographer's Lens

For the professional photographer (or hobbyist) it's always a good thing to find a new and interesting challenge. Taking pictures of birds can be just that -- a challenge. Not only are birds a moving target, but they fly from here to there and in a split second they could decide to move on and before long they are out of sight once again. To catch a bird in that small time frame when he is in clear sight with the perfect backdrop takes practice, patience, and skill. These pictures of birds are often the most memorable photos though and can be quite breathtaking.
