Borneo
Borneo is a small island in the South Pacific. It has a tropical climate and is host to many birds that will not be found anywhere else including birds that are listed as endangered. Birders often go to Borneo to take a gander at the magnificent birds of borneo and to see a part of the world that is completely different than the United States.
Birds of Borneo include the blue-eared kingfisher, the wrinkled hornbill, the Bornean treepie, the indigo flycatcher and the dark-throated oriole. Though some of the birds of Borneo have extremely bright feathers, many of them are dull and brown, somewhat similar to what you would find in certain areas of the United States.
Wrinkled horn bills
The wrinkled horn bill is one water bird that you’ll find in your search for birds of Borneo. These birds have blue eyelids, which is not something you’ll see at home! They have a white or yellowish tail, black feathers and very large bills that have casques. Casques, which are usually orange, red or yellow, are used for grabbing insects and fruits while the bird is flying in the air. It’s kind of like a kabob. Females will also use their bills for building a nest and bludgeoning snakes and other predators that try to get near the nest.
As one of many birds of Borneo, the wrinkled horn bills are totally different than other birds that you would find in the states. The birds can inflate their chests. The males’ chests are usually yellow while the blue color of the bird’s eyelids travels all the way down to the female’s chest.
The wrinkled horn bill likes to mate for life and will spend a large majority of its time as one of many birds of Borneo just hanging out with its mate. The birds nest in trees, usually finding a woodpecker hole that they enlarge to serve as a nesting place. To make the tree hole bigger, the birds place honey in the hole, which attracts a bear that will dig in the hole and turn it into a larger nesting place for the birds.
The wrinkled horn bills travel in very small groups and often just stick to hanging out with their respective mate. If you’re looking for the wrinkled horn bill, you'll need to travel, because Borneo is one of only a few places in which the birds lives. These birds of Borneo could also be considered birds of Malaysia and Thailand because they’re also known to reside there.
