Gerbils are susceptible to seizure conditions and nasal dermatitis, while wet tail disease is typically the biggest problem with hamsters. Small pets can transmit various bacteria, fungi, and parasites to people, but in most cases these aren't any different than what dogs and cats can carry. The most common zoonotic diseases are ringworm, tapeworm, sarcoptic mange, and salmonellosis.
